Weather – Texas Style

There are too many jokes about Texas weather to need a new one.  Yesterday was interesting.  We all knew a storm or two were set to roll in, but the way Texas is built, what looks like armegedon can miss you by 4 counties, while a “light sprinkles in the afternoon” can wash bridges away.  Not a good place to be a weatherperson – if accuracy is your goal!

Was at a Little League playoff game…never finished, rained out.  Came home, had had some sort of wind sheer in this area that literally picked up 6’ x 6’ x 6’ metal sheds that I keep poultry in, and tossed one of them up and over one of my outbuildings and off into the orchard, and another slammed up against a roller pigeon loft and knocked it off it’s foundations.  Spent a very wet evening chasing down birds and returning them to a proper pen.

Late last night, the same stuff came back for round two but without as heavy winds, so most everything stayed put, but we got a lightening and thunder show for quite a while.  Now this morning, clear blue sky, light breeze…and mushy, mushy ground!

A lot of tractor work this morning to lift and turn the tumbled pens, some sore muscles, and sheet metal repair but now things are about normal.  Lost some young chickens in the deluge, but saved more by throwing them under a heat lamp to dry them out.

Looking forward to a few days of sun!
